Recycling

Construction Waste Management - The goal for the project is to recycle 75 percent of all construction waste.  WasteCap of Wisconsin, as well as Cornerstone Disposal & Recycling, will be supplying the site with recycle containers, as well as removing the contents for recycling.

Recycled Content and Reused Materials
- Many of the home’s products contain recycled content.  For erosion control measures, Wisconsin-based White Oak Farm Organics will be utilizing compost in a biodegradable “sock” which will prevent stormwater from running offsite during construction.

The masonry utilized on the driveway and sidewalk, by Wisconsin-based Suprenant Masonry Inc., includes recycled and natural materials.  Additionally, the drywall donated by Wisconsin Drywall Distributors contains recycled material.

Also, the carpeting will largely be made from recycled and environmentally friendly content, courtesy of Wisconsin-based Nonn’s Flooring.  A substantial portion of the flooring will be manufactured using corn sugar - a renewable resource.  Additionally, the home will feature bamboo flooring, which offers natural wood splendor, while being a renewable resource.  Because bamboo is actually a grass, not a tree, it can completely regrown in 5 to 7 years, and is truly renewable resource, courtesy of Malkins carpets

The countertops used in the home also feature recycled material.  Vivendi™ Nuvo is made with all natural, local materials including stone, sand, and organic pigments. Many of the molds used to manufacture Vivendi™ Nuvo are reused, and recycled water is used in the manufacturing process of Vivendi™ Nuvo.  In addition, Vivendi™ Nuvo is made of concrete, which can be broken down and recycled.

Additionally, roof tiles that are made from recycled rubber and recycled plastic will be used.  The tiles also create less granular runoff, compared to asphalt or slate roofing materials, which results in fewer pollutants flowing into stormwater.

Lastly, the steel I-Beams used to structurally support the home are made by Becker Steel and are composed of recycled materials.
